Fighting For My Cause

I am a little girl who grew up too fast.
My innocence is a thing of the past.
The Army of Ignorance has made its move.
I asked myself what I should do.

I was only a girl, not quite grown up,
When I was called to drink from bravery's cup.
Ignorance was building its might,
And it was I that had to fight.

In right and wrong everyone believes.
But no one would appear to say, "Who will join me?"
I could take the charge myself or...
Wait for Ignorance to kick down my door.

My home was turned into a military base.
Anyone able was to report post-haste.
Age and condition had no meaning,
As long as you passed the intelligence screening.

Some say we were mad to fight for truth.
But then we had little to lose.
The Army of Ignorance was moving fast,
And now our lot was cast.

A warning siren suddenly blared.
And, for a minute, I was scared.
We all came to see outside.
And not even a child cried.

We saw people walking by
As a homeless man died.
And a raped woman's screams were ignored,
Though she was behind a busy grocery store.

We saw teens tease a misfit to make him cry,
Pretending they are innocent when he commits suicide.
And a girl that crash diets to stay small,
Thinking it's worth it if the boys will call.

There were many instances of wrongs to be made right,
If only someone had the guts to fight!
But the Army of Ignorance was a powerful foe,
Since people ignored or didn't know!

We weren't sure what we were doing,
In the face of this danger looming,
We were all very scared;
So we linked arms and went from there.

Then the Army of Ignorance attacked,
And through the sky thunder cracked.
Our line was ripped asunder,
In the pounding rain and booming thunder.

We fought long and hard, until the Army of Ignorance lost.
Defending our cause, many lives were the cost.
But glory is in the way my fellow fighters died
Because it caused some of the Army of Ignorance to join our side!

And I am no longer a little girl.
I have found in me a precious pearl.
As my spent body and my mind pause,
I remain proudly knowing that I fought for my cause.
