The Coon

I had a dream...

I am a clam
All my sensitive tissues
Locked inside my shell
A barrier
Protecting me from
The sand and wind
That threaten to damage
My soft muscle
I am safe
Secure
Happy as I can be

Then a coon comes along
Dragging his useless hind legs
Behind him
He can't break my shell
Because it requires standing
So he talks to me sweetly
"I won't hurt you"
"You can trust me"
After hearing these things
I let my shell swing open
Showing my softness

Over time
The coon
Becomes my friend
When I am scared
And close my shell
He coaxes me
To reopen my shell
I trust him
I love him
But he shows me
His true purpose

He rips out
My muscle
All I see or feel
Are his sharp claws
And gnashing teeth
"Don't do this!"
I scream
"I love you!"
"No, you don't," he says
As he slowly kills me
I cry tears of despair
