I Only Cry in the Rain

The clouds rolled in
And the thunder clapped.
But it could not deafen
The screaming rage
In my soul.
As the rain fell,
So did my tears
Because I only cry in the rain.
When my heart was broken
By someone I loved,
I lied and said,
"It doesn't bother me.
"I don't care."
I held my tears
Until the next rainy day.
Because I only cry in the rain.
When it rains,
It is said,
The angels are in sorrow.
Why they would be sad,
I don't know.
But it's convenient for me
Because it hides my tears.
That's why I only cry in the rain.
I take life's punches
And come back for more.
I know I can take it
Because I've bounced back before.
I am admired
For my strength of character.
No one knows my secret:
I only cry in the rain.
The next time you see me
Standing in the rain,
Looking like a drowned rat
And smelling about the same,
Save your pity and your help.
Because I will refuse it.
I will lie and say I'm fine
Because I only cry in the rain.
